I miss black hound so very much. Most cakes in NYC these days taste very 'fake', full of odd ingredients or finishes. Black Hound Busy Bee and checkerboard cakes were some of the most authentically delicious AND still beautiful to look at cakes in the world. Please come back.
The Busy Bee cake remains the best food I have ever eaten… period. I received it as a gift in college from my parents and would treat myself with it regularly. I remember the last cake I ordered. I kept the last quarter in the freezer and slowly chipped away at it… trying to savor it for as long as possible. I often hope that Black Hound will resurrected.
I count Black Hound's closing foremost among NYC pastries greatest tragedies. I wish the owners would publish a cookbook, open a pop-up shop, an online venue, anything really. In all these years I have yet to find a replacement for the Busy Bee cake.
